Sales at constant 2015 prices: results for December 2019

Measured in real terms (constant 2015 prices), wholesale trade sales decreased by 1,3% in 2019 compared with 2018. In December 2019 wholesale trade sales increased by 2,6% year-on-year.

Seasonally adjusted wholesale trade sales decreased by 0,5% in December 2019 compared with November 2019. This followed month-on-month changes of -2,9% in November 2019 and 0,7% in October 2019.

In the fourth quarter of 2019, seasonally adjusted wholesale trade sales decreased by 3,0% compared with the third quarter of 2019.

Sales at current prices: results for December 2019

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), wholesale trade sales increased by 5,6% in December 2019 compared with December 2018. The main positive contributors to this increase were dealers in:

  • solid, liquid and gaseous fuels and related products (8,3% and contributing 2,1 percentage points);
  • 'other' household goods except precious stones (13,3% and contributing 1,5 percentage points);
  • food, beverages and tobacco (7,3% and contributing 1,4 percentage points); and
  • 'other' goods (19,2% and contributing 1,2 percentage points).

Wholesale trade sales increased by 0,3% in the fourth quarter of 2019 compared with the fourth quarter of 2018. The main contributor to this increase was dealers in food, beverages and tobacco (6,9% and contributing 1,1 percentage points).
