Sales at constant 2015 prices: results for January 2019

Measured in real terms (constant 2015 prices), wholesale trade sales increased by 0,9% in January 2019 compared with January 2018.

Seasonally adjusted wholesale trade sales increased by 3,7% in January 2019 compared with December 2018. This followed month-on-month changes of -7,5% in December 2018 and -1,5% in November 2018.

In the three months ended January 2019, seasonally adjusted wholesale trade sales decreased by 5,1% compared with the previous three months.

Sales at current prices: results for January 2019

Measured in nominal terms (current prices), wholesale trade sales increased by 5,0% in January 2019 compared with January 2018. The main positive contributors were dealers in:

  • solid, liquid and gaseous fuels and related products (12,8% and contributing 2,9 percentage points); and
  • precious stones, jewellery and silverware (75,9% and contributing 1,7 percentage points).

Wholesale trade sales increased by 4,3% in the three months ended January 2019 compared with the three months ended January 2018. The main contributors to this increase were dealers in:

  • solid, liquid and gaseous fuels and related products (15,4% and contributing 3,3 percentage points); and
  • machinery, equipment and supplies (13,4% and contributing 1,7 percentage points).
