Key findings: P5041.3 - Selected building statistics of the private sector as reported by local government institutions, 2019

The value of recorded building plans passed by larger municipalities (at current prices) decreased by 8,8% (-R10 426,0 million) in 2019 compared with 2018. Decreases were reported in residential buildings (contributing -6,0 percentage points or -R7 151,4 million) and non-residential buildings (contributing -3,2 percentage points or -R3 793,4 million). An increase was reported in the additions and alterations category (contributing 0,4 of a percentage point or R518,7 million). 

The value of buildings reported as completed to larger municipalities (at current prices) increased by 21,2% (R15 562,4 million) in 2019 compared with 2018. Increases were reported in all three of the major categories, namely residential buildings (contributing 11,0 percentage points or R8 028,3 million), non-residential buildings (contributing 9,0 percentage points or R6 579,2 million) and additions and alterations (contributing 1,3 percentage points or R954,9 million).
