Key findings: P5041.3 - Selected building statistics of the private sector as reported by local government institutions, 2018

The value of recorded building plans passed by larger municipalities (at current prices) decreased by 1,1% (-R1 258,1 million) in 2018 compared with 2017. A decrease was reported in the non-residential buildings category (contributing -2,9 percentage points or -R3 334,4 million). The other two major categories reported increases, namely residential buildings (contributing 1,5 percentage points or R1 735,1 million) and additions and alterations (contributing 0,3 of a percentage point or R341,2 million).

The value of buildings reported as completed to larger municipalities (at current prices) increased by 0,1% (R45,9 million) in 2018 compared with 2017. Two of the major categories reported increases, namely residential buildings (contributing 7,7 percentage points or R5 636,5 million) and additions and alterations (contributing 1,0 percentage point or R713,2 million). A decrease was reported in the non-residential buildings category (contributing -8,6 percentage points or -R6 303,7 million).
