Key findings: P5041.3 - Selected building statistics of the private sector as reported by local government institutions, 2021

The value of recorded building plans passed by larger municipalities (at current prices) increased by 41,3% (R31 579,1 million) in 2021 compared with 2020. Increases were reported for residential buildings (contributing 26,9 percentage points or R20 511,7 million), additions and alterations (contributing 11,8 percentage points or R8 989,1 million) and non-residential buildings (contributing 2,7 percentage points or R2 078,4 million).

 

The value of buildings reported as completed to larger municipalities (at current prices) increased by 20,8% (R10 218,3 million) in 2021 compared with 2020. Increases were reported in two of the three major categories, namely residential buildings (contributing 14,8 percentage points or R7 287,3 million) and additions and alterations (contributing 7,0 percentage points or R3 413,4 million). A decrease was reported for non-residential buildings (contributing -1,0 percentage point or -R482,3 million).
