Key findings: P5041.3 - Selected building statistics of the private sector as reported by local government institutions, 2016

The value of recorded building plans passed by larger municipalities (at current prices) increased by 7,2% (R7 336,9 million) in 2016 compared with 2015. All three major categories reported increases, namely residential buildings (contributing 4,2 percentage points or R4 293,5 million), non-residential buildings (contributing 2,1 percentage points or R2 146,6 million) and additions and alterations (contributing 0,9 of a percentage point or R896,7 million).

The value of buildings reported as completed to larger municipalities (at current prices) increased by 8,3% (R4 726,1 million) in 2016 compared with 2015. All three major categories reported increases, namely residential buildings (contributing 4,9 percentage points or R2 787,1 million), non-residential buildings (contributing 2,2 percentage points or R1 257,1 million) and additions and alterations (contributing 1,2 percentage points or R681,9 million).
