Key findings: P5041.3 - Selected building statistics of the private sector as reported by local government institutions, 2014

The value of recorded building plans passed by larger municipalities (at current prices) increased by 10,8% (R9 426,3 million) in 2014 compared with 2013. All three major categories reported increases, namely residential buildings (contributing 9,2 percentage points or R8 023,8 million), additions and alterations (contributing 1,1 percentage points or R979,1 million) and non-residential buildings (contributing 0,5 of a percentage point or R423,4 million).

The value of buildings reported as completed to larger municipalities (at current prices) increased by 1,1% (R588,6 million) in 2014 compared with 2013. Two of the three major categories reported increases, namely residential buildings (contributing 3,9 percentage points or R2 019,4 million) and non-residential buildings (contributing 2,7 percentage points or R1 394,5 million). A decrease was reported for additions and alterations (contributing -5,4 percentage points or -R2 825,4 million).
