Key findings: P5041.1 - Selected building statistics of the private sector as reported by local government institutions, February 2020

The value of recorded building plans passed (at current prices) decreased by 27,7% (-R5 453,2 million) during January to February 2020 compared with January to February 2019. Decreases were recorded for residential buildings (-40,7% or -R4 786,8 million), non-residential buildings (-17,8% or -R654,3 million) and additions and alterations (-0,3% or -R12,2 million).

The value of buildings reported as completed (at current prices) decreased by 8,9% (-R1 149,7 million) during January to February 2020 compared with January to February 2019. A decrease was recorded for residential buildings (-27,5% or -R1 890,6 million). Increases were recorded for additions and alterations (40,9% or R693,0 million) and non-residential buildings (1,1% or R47,9 million).
