The value of recorded building plans passed (at current prices) decreased by 9,0% (-R10 665,6 million) in 2019 compared with 2018. Decreases were recorded for non-residential buildings (‑14,8% or -R4 011,6 million) and residential buildings (-11,6% or -R7 188,6 million). An increase was recorded for additions and alterations (1,8% or R534,6 million).

The value of buildings reported as completed (at current prices) increased by 21,0% (R15 434,6 million) in 2019 compared with 2018. Increases were recorded for non-residential buildings (39,0% or R6 489,7 million), residential buildings (18,0% or R7 993,8 million) and additions and alterations (7,7% or R951,1 million).
