Key findings: P5041.1 - Selected building statistics of the private sector as reported by local government institutions, August 2019

The value of recorded building plans passed (at current prices) decreased by 5,6% (-R4 421,2 million) during January to August 2019 compared with January to August 2018. Decreases were recorded for non-residential buildings (‑11,0% or -R1 974,6 million) and residential buildings (-7,0% or -R2 881,0 million). An increase was recorded for additions and alterations (2,2% or R434,5 million).

The value of buildings reported as completed (at current prices) increased by 40,0% (R17 816,5 million) during January to August 2019 compared with January to August 2018. Increases were recorded for non-residential buildings (56,4% or R5 679,5 million), residential buildings (45,2% or R11 850,0 million) and additions and alterations (3,5% or R287,0 million).
