Key findings: P5041.1 - Selected building statistics of the private sector as reported by local government institutions, May 2024

The value of building plans passed (at current prices) decreased by 7,4% (-R3 100,0 million) during January to May 2024 compared with January to May 2023. Decreases were reported for residential buildings (-R2 273,4 million) and additions and alterations (-R1 312,8 million). An increase was reported for non-residential buildings (R486,2 million).


The value of buildings reported as completed (at current prices) decreased by 16,6% (-R3 741,6 million) during January to May 2024 compared with January to May 2023. Decreases were reported for residential buildings (-R2 411,4 million) and non-residential buildings (-R1 531,4 million). An increase was reported for additions and alterations (R201,2 million).
