The value of building plans passed (at current prices) decreased by 10,6% (-R8 232,9 million) during January to August 2023 compared with January to August 2022. Decreases were reported for residential buildings (-16,8% or -R7 025,9 million) and additions and alterations (-10,6% or -R2 302,8 million). An increase was reported for non-residential buildings (7,6% or R1 095,8 million).

The value of buildings reported as completed (at current prices) decreased by 21,2% (-R9 653,5 million) during January to August 2023 compared with January to August 2022. Decreases were reported for additions and alterations (-51,8% or -R6 312,7 million), non-residential buildings (-20,6% or -R2 174,1 million) and residential buildings (-5,1% or -R1 166,8 million).
