Key findings: P5041.1 - Selected building statistics of the private sector as reported by local government institutions, March 2023

The value of building plans passed (at current prices) decreased by 15,8% (-R4 497,2 million) in the first quarter of 2023 compared with the first quarter of 2022. Decreases were reported for non-residential buildings (-36,4% or -R2 294,3 million) and residential buildings (-16,1% or -R2 480,1 million). An increase was reported for additions and alterations (4,1% or R277,2 million).

 

The value of buildings reported as completed (at current prices) decreased by 17,2% (-R2 677,9 million) in the first quarter of 2023 compared with the first quarter of 2022. Decreases were reported for additions and alterations (-37,5% or -R1 426,1 million), non-residential buildings (-14,6% or -R638,3 million) and residential buildings (-8,3% or -R613,6 million).
