The value of recorded building plans passed (at current prices) increased by 7,2% (R3 531,0 million) during January to June 2018 compared with January to June 2017. Increases were recorded for residential buildings (8,1% or R2 035,0 million), additions and alterations (7,6% or R1 003,9 million) and non-residential buildings (4,4% or R492,1 million).

The value of buildings reported as completed (at current prices) decreased by 13,9% (-R4 710,1 million) during January to June 2018 compared with January to June 2017. Decreases were recorded for non-residential buildings (-26,9% or -R2 603,0 million) and residential buildings (-12,4% or  R2 341,4 million). An increase was recorded for additions and alterations (4,3% or R234,3 million).
