Key findings: P5041.1 - Selected building statistics of the private sector as reported by local government institutions, March 2018

The value of recorded building plans passed (at current prices) increased by 6,2% (R1 494,5 million) in the first quarter of 2018 compared with the first quarter of 2017. Increases were recorded for additions and alterations (18,0% or R1 107,8 million) and residential buildings (4,5% or R538,4 million). A decrease was recorded for non-residential buildings (-2,6% or -R151,8 million).

The value of buildings reported as completed (at current prices) decreased by 13,7% (-R2 223,6 million) in the first quarter of 2018 compared with the first quarter of 2017. Decreases were recorded for non-residential buildings (-26,5% or -R1 214,0 million) and residential buildings (-13,8% or -R1 232,4 million). An increase was recorded for additions and alterations (8,3% or R222,8 million).
