Key findings: P5041.1 - Selected building statistics of the private sector as reported by local government institutions, December 2017

The value of recorded building plans passed (at current prices) decreased by 2,2% (-R2 408,8 million) in 2017 compared with 2016. Decreases were recorded for non-residential buildings (-9,7% or  R2 816,2 million) and residential buildings (-2,7% or -R1 500,5 million). An increase was recorded for additions and alterations (7,0% or R1 907,9 million).

The value of buildings reported as completed (at current prices) increased by 19,2% (R11 809,4 million) in 2017 compared with 2016. The largest percentage increase was recorded for non-residential buildings (43,5% or R6 946,9 million), followed by residential buildings (10,7% or R3 743,4 million) and additions and alterations (10,7% or R1 119,1 million).
