Building Statistics


The value of recorded building plans passed (at current prices) decreased by 11,5% (-R6 353,6 million) during January to June 2017 compared with January to June 2016. Decreases were recorded for non-residential buildings (-31,1% or -R4 921,2 million) and residential buildings (-7,3% or -R1 966,9 million).

The value of buildings reported as completed (at current prices) increased by 14,1% (R4 183,1 million) during January to June 2017 compared with January to June 2016. The largest increase was recorded for residential buildings (18,0% or R2 857,0 million), followed by non-residential buildings (11,0% or R953,4 million) and additions and alterations (7,4% or R372,7 million).
