Key findings: P5041.1 - Selected building statistics of the private sector as reported by local government institutions, January 2017

The value of recorded building plans passed (at current prices) decreased by 14,0% (-R1 075,8 million) in January 2017 compared with January 2016. Non-residential buildings fell by 46,6% (-R1 512,8 million). There were large year-on-year decreases in plans passed for shopping space in KwaZulu-Natal (-R1 980,9 million) and Gauteng (-R366,7 million).


The value of buildings reported as completed (at current prices) increased by 29,1% (R1 000,6 million) in January 2017 compared with January 2016. Non-residential buildings rose by 128,9% (R745,6 million) mainly due to a large year-on-year increase in office and banking space completed in Gauteng (R676,8 million).
