The value of recorded building plans passed (at current prices) increased by 4,5% (R3 837,9 million) during January to October 2016 compared with January to October 2015. All three major building categories recorded increases. The largest increase was recorded for residential buildings (5,2% or R2 220,0 million), followed by non-residential buildings (3,9% or R826,0 million) and additions and alterations (3,6% or R791,9 million).

The value of buildings reported as completed (at current prices) increased by 8,6% (R3 895,6 million) during January to October 2016 compared with January to October 2015. The largest increases were recorded for non-residential buildings (17,8% or R2 010,2 million) and residential buildings (5,7% or R1 481,3 million).
