Key findings: P3043 - Manufacturing: Utilisation of production capacity by large enterprises, May 2020

The utilisation of production capacity by large manufacturers was 60,9% in May 2020 compared with 81,3% in May 2019, a decrease of 20,4 percentage points.

                                                    

All of the manufacturing divisions showed decreases in utilisation of production capacity in May 2020 compared with May 2019. The largest decreases were recorded in the following divisions:

  • furniture and ‘other’ manufacturing (-43,1 percentage points);
  • glass and non-metallic mineral products (-34,9 percentage points);
  • motor vehicles, parts and accessories and other transport equipment (-34,6 percentage points);
  • textiles, clothing, leather and footwear (-24,9 percentage points);
  • electrical machinery (-24,7 percentage points);
  • basic iron and steel, non-ferrous metal products, metal products and machinery (-22,3 percentage points); and
  • wood and wood products, paper, publishing and printing (-20,9 percentage points).


The following divisions recorded rates of utilisation of production capacity above 60% in May 2020:

  • radio, television and communication apparatus and professional equipment (72,0%);
  • food and beverages (68,6%);
  • petroleum, chemical products, rubber and plastic products (66,9%); and
  • wood and wood products, paper, publishing and printing (60,9%).
