Key findings: P3043 - Manufacturing: Utilisation of production capacity by large enterprises, November 2019

The utilisation of production capacity by large manufacturers was 81,0% in November 2019 compared with 83,0% in November 2018, a decrease of 2,0 percentage points.


Eight of the ten manufacturing divisions showed decreases in utilisation of production capacity in November 2019 compared with November 2018. The largest decreases were recorded in the following divisions:

  • petroleum, chemical products, rubber and plastic products (-4,1 percentage points);
  • glass and non-metallic mineral products (-3,9 percentage points);
  • motor vehicles, parts and accessories and other transport equipment (-3,7 percentage points);
  • furniture and ‘other’ manufacturing (-3,2 percentage points);
  • basic iron and steel, non-ferrous metal products, metal products and machinery (-2,6 percentage points); and
  • radio, television and communication apparatus and professional equipment (-2,5 percentage points).


In 2019 the utilisation of production capacity was 80,9%, a decrease of 0,5 of a percentage point from 81,4% in 2018.


The largest decreases in 2019 compared with 2018 were recorded in the following divisions:

  • glass and non-metallic mineral products (-3,5 percentage points);
  • radio, television and communication apparatus and professional equipment (-1,6 percentage points);
  • textiles, clothing, leather and footwear (-1,4 percentage points);
  • basic iron and steel, non-ferrous metal products, metal products and machinery (-1,0 percentage point);
  • motor vehicles, parts and accessories and other transport equipment (-1,0 percentage point); and
  • furniture and ‘other’ manufacturing (-0,9 of a percentage point).
