Key findings: P3043 - Manufacturing: Utilisation of production capacity by large enterprises, May 2024

The utilisation of production capacity by large manufacturers was 77,6% in May 2024 compared with 77,5% in May 2023, an increase of 0,1 of a percentage point.

 

Six of the ten manufacturing divisions showed increases in utilisation of production capacity in May 2024 compared with May 2023. The largest increases were recorded in the following divisions:

·        basic iron and steel, non-ferrous metal products, metal products and machinery (1,3 percentage points);

·        glass and non-metallic mineral products (0,4 of a percentage point);

·        wood and wood products, paper, publishing and printing (0,4 of a percentage point); and

·        radio, television and communication apparatus and professional equipment (0,4 of a percentage point).

 

The largest decreases were recorded in the following divisions:

·        motor vehicles, parts and accessories and other transport equipment (-2,7 percentage points); and

·        textiles, clothing, leather and footwear (-1,0 percentage point).

 

The following divisions recorded rates of utilisation of production capacity above 80% in May 2024:

·        food and beverages (82,4%); and

·        furniture and ‘other’ manufacturing (80,8%).
