Key findings: P3043 - Manufacturing: Utilisation of production capacity by large enterprises, November 2021

The utilisation of production capacity by large manufacturers was 78,9% in November 2021 compared with 78,7% in November 2020, an increase of 0,2 of a percentage point.

Six of the ten manufacturing divisions showed increases in utilisation of production capacity in November 2021 compared with November 2020. The largest increases were recorded in the following divisions:

  • furniture and ‘other’ manufacturing (15,5 percentage points);
  • electrical machinery (6,9 percentage points);
  • basic iron and steel, non-ferrous metal products, metal products and machinery (2,9 percentage points); and

In 2021 the utilisation of production capacity was 77,6%, an increase of 6,2 percentage points from 71,4% in 2020, mainly due to decreases in insufficient demand (contributing -3,8 percentage points to the change in under-utilisation) and ‘other reasons’ (such as downtime due to maintenance and changes in productivity) (contributing -2,8 percentage points to the change in under-utilisation).

The largest increases in 2021 compared with 2020 were recorded in the following divisions:
