Key findings: P3041.2 - Manufacturing: Production and sales, July 2020

Manufacturing production decreased by 10,6% in July 2020 compared with July 2019. The largest contributions were made by the following divisions:

·         food and beverages (-11,4% and contributing -3,3 percentage points);

·         motor vehicles, parts and accessories and other transport equipment (-26,9% and contributing -2,4 percentage points);

·         basic iron and steel, non-ferrous metal products, metal products and machinery (-11,6% and contributing -2,1 percentage points);

·         wood and wood products, paper, publishing and printing (-13,1% and contributing -1,4 percentage points); and

·         furniture and ‘other’ manufacturing (-39,1% and contributing -1,2 percentage points).

 

Seasonally adjusted manufacturing production increased by 7,6% in July 2020 compared with June 2020. This followed month-on-month changes of 17,9% in June 2020 and 29,7% in May 2020.

 

Seasonally adjusted manufacturing production decreased by 2,9% in the three months ended July 2020 compared with the previous three months. Four of the ten manufacturing divisions reported negative growth rates over this period.

 

Negative contributions were made by the following divisions:

·         food and beverages (-7,0% and contributing -2,3 percentage points);

·         furniture and ‘other’ manufacturing (-28,5% and contributing -0,8 of a percentage point);

·         motor vehicles, parts and accessories and other transport equipment (-13,9% and contributing -0,8 of a percentage point); and

·         wood and wood products, paper, publishing and printing (-5,1% and contributing -0,5 of a percentage point).
