Key findings: P3041.2 - Manufacturing: Production and sales, October 2019

Manufacturing production decreased by 0,8% in October 2019 compared with October 2018. Seven of the ten manufacturing divisions reported negative growth rates over this period. The largest negative contributions were made by the following divisions:

·         wood and wood products, paper, publishing and printing (-6,1% and contributing -0,7 of a percentage point);

·         basic iron and steel, non-ferrous metal products, metal products and machinery (-2,2% and contributing -0,4 of a percentage point);

·         textiles, clothing, leather and footwear (-9,6% and contributing -0,3 of a percentage point); and

·         glass and non-metallic mineral products (-10,7% and contributing -0,3 of a percentage point).

 

A significant positive contribution was made by the food and beverages division (4,0% and contributing 1,1 percentage points).


Seasonally adjusted manufacturing production increased by 2,7% in October 2019 compared with September 2019. This followed month-on-month changes of -2,4% in September 2019 and 1,2% in August 2019.


Seasonally adjusted manufacturing production increased by 0,5% in the three months ended October 2019 compared with the previous three months. Five of the ten manufacturing divisions reported positive growth rates over this period.

The largest positive contribution was made by the petroleum, chemical products, rubber and plastic products division (4,1% and contributing 0,9 of a percentage point). The largest negative contribution was made by the food and beverages division (-0,8% and contributing -0,2 of a percentage point).
