Key findings: P3041.2 - Manufacturing: Production and sales, July 2019

Manufacturing production decreased by 1,1% in July 2019 compared with July 2018. The largest negative contributions were made by the following divisions:

·         petroleum, chemical products, rubber and plastic products (-8,0% and contributing -1,8 percentage points);

·         basic iron and steel, non-ferrous metal products, metal products and machinery (-4,4% and contributing -0,8 of a percentage point); and

·         wood and wood products, paper, publishing and printing (-5,1% and contributing -0,6 of a percentage point).

 

The largest positive contributions were made by the following divisions:

·         food and beverages (7,0% and contributing 1,9 percentage points); and

·         motor vehicles, parts and accessories and other transport equipment (7,6% and contributing 0,6 of a percentage point).


Seasonally adjusted manufacturing production increased by 0,4% in July 2019 compared with June 2019. This followed month-on-month changes of -1,9% in June 2019 and -2,3% in May 2019.


Seasonally adjusted manufacturing production decreased by 1,4% in the three months ended July 2019 compared with the previous three months. Six of the ten manufacturing divisions reported negative growth rates over this period.

The largest negative contributions were made by the following divisions:

·         petroleum, chemical products, rubber and plastic products (-4,5% and contributing -1,0 percentage point); and

·         basic iron and steel, non-ferrous metal products, metal products and machinery (-5,0% and contributing -1,0 percentage point).

 

The largest positive contribution was made by the food and beverages division (2,9% and contributing 0,8 of a percentage point).
