Production: results for May 2024

Manufacturing production decreased by 0,6% in May 2024 compared with May 2023. The following divisions made the largest negative contributions:

· basic iron and steel, non-ferrous metal products, metal products and machinery (-8,1% and contributing -1,8 percentage points); and

· motor vehicles, parts and accessories and other transport equipment (-11,8% and contributing -1,2 percentage points).

Seasonally adjusted manufacturing production decreased by 3,2% in May 2024 compared with April 2024. This followed month-on-month changes of 5,2% in April 2024 and -2,3% in March 2024.

Seasonally adjusted manufacturing production decreased by 0,4% in the three months ended May 2024 compared with the previous three months. Seven of the ten manufacturing divisions reported negative growth rates over this period.

The following divisions made the largest negative contributions:

· motor vehicles, parts and accessories and other transport equipment (-4,3% and contributing -0,4 of a percentage point);

· petroleum, chemical products, rubber and plastic products (-0,9% and contributing -0,2 of a percentage point); and

· glass and non-metallic mineral products (-5,1% and contributing -0,2 of a percentage point).

The largest positive contribution was made by the food and beverages division (2,0% and contributing 0,5 of a percentage point).

Sales: results for May 2024

Seasonally adjusted manufacturing sales decreased by 3,5% in May 2024 compared with April 2024. This followed month-on-month changes of 5,8% in April 2024 and -2,5% in March 2024.

Seasonally adjusted manufacturing sales increased by 0,1% in the three months ended May 2024 compared with the previous three months.

The largest positive contribution was made by the food and beverages division (3,6% and contributing 0,8 of a percentage point) and the largest negative contribution was made by the motor vehicles, parts and accessories and other transport equipment division (-3,1% and contributing -0,5 of a percentage point).
