Production: results for May 2022

Manufacturing production decreased by 2,3% in May 2022 compared with May 2021. The largest negative contributions were made by the following divisions:

·        motor vehicles, parts and accessories and other transport equipment (-19,2% and contributing -2,1 percentage points);

·        food and beverages (-4,1% and contributing -0,9 of a percentage point);

·        wood and wood products, paper, publishing and printing (-8,1% and contributing -0,8 of a percentage point); and

·        basic iron and steel, non-ferrous metal products, metal products and machinery (-2,3% and contributing -0,5 of a percentage point).

 

The petroleum, chemical products, rubber and plastic products division was a significant positive contributor (7,5% and contributing 1,5 percentage points).

 

Seasonally adjusted manufacturing production decreased by 0,2% in May 2022 compared with April 2022. This followed month-on-month changes of -5,7% in April 2022 and 0,2% in March 2022.


Seasonally adjusted manufacturing production decreased by 3,4% in the three months ended May 2022 compared with the previous three months. Nine of the ten manufacturing divisions reported negative growth rates over this period.

 

The largest contributions were made by the following divisions:

·        petroleum, chemical products, rubber and plastic products (-3,7% and contributing -0,8 of a percentage point);

·        motor vehicles, parts and accessories and other transport equipment (-7,2% and contributing -0,7 of a percentage point); and

food and beverages (-2,8% and contributing -0,6 of a percentage point).

 

Sales: results for May 2022

Seasonally adjusted manufacturing sales increased by 2,5% in May 2022 compared with April 2022. This followed month-on-month changes of -3,8% in April 2022 and 3,1% in March 2022.

Seasonally adjusted manufacturing sales increased by 2,5% in the three months ended May 2022 compared with the previous three months. The largest contributions were made by the following divisions:

·        petroleum, chemical products, rubber and plastic products (7,6% and contributing 1,4 percentage points); and

·        food and beverages (2,6% and contributing 0,6 of a percentage point).
