Manufacturing production increased by 2,3% in May 2018 compared with May 2017. The largest contributions were made by the following divisions:

  • food and beverages (5,5% and contributing 1,4 percentage points);
  • petroleum, chemicals, rubber and plastic products (3,3% and contributing 0,7 of a percentage point); and
  • motor vehicles, parts and accessories and other transport equipment (9,9% and contributing 0,7 of a percentage point).

Seasonally adjusted manufacturing production increased by 1,5% in May 2018 compared with April 2018. This followed month-on-month changes of -0,5% in April 2018 and 0,6% in March 2018.

Seasonally adjusted manufacturing production decreased by 1,5% in the three months ended May 2018 compared with the previous three months. Nine of the ten manufacturing divisions reported negative growth rates over this period.

The largest negative contributors to the 1,5% decrease in the three months ended May 2018 were made by the petroleum, chemicals, rubber and plastic products division (-3,2% and contributing -0,8 of a percentage point) and the basic iron and steel, non-ferrous metal products, metal products and machinery division (-1,5% and contributing -0,3 of a percentage point). The only positive contribution was made by the food and beverages division (1,5% and contributing 0,4 of a percentage point).
