Key findings: P3041.2 - Manufacturing: Production and sales, September 2017

Manufacturing production decreased by 1,6% in September 2017 compared with September 2016. This decrease was mainly due to lower production in the following divisions:

  • wood and wood products, paper, publishing and printing (-7,0% and contributing -0,9 of a percentage point);
  • petroleum, chemical products, rubber and plastic products (-2,5% and contributing -0,6 of a percentage point); and
  • motor vehicles, parts and accessories and other transport equipment (-4,0% and contributing -0,3 of a percentage point).

Seasonally adjusted manufacturing production decreased by 0,8% in September 2017 compared with August 2017. This followed month-on-month changes of 0,3% in August 2017 and 1,4% in July 2017.

Seasonally adjusted manufacturing production increased by 1,0% in the third quarter of 2017 compared with the second quarter of 2017. Six of the ten manufacturing divisions reported positive growth rates over this period.

The largest contributions to the 1,0% increase were made by the following divisions:

  • petroleum, chemical products, rubber and plastic products (3,7% and contributing 0,9 of a percentage point);
  • basic iron and steel, non-ferrous metal products, metal products and machinery (2,4% and contributing 0,5 of a percentage point); and
  • motor vehicles, parts and accessories and other transport equipment (1,6% and contributing 0,1 of a percentage point).
