Key findings: P3041.2 - Manufacturing: Production and sales, May 2017

Manufacturing production decreased by 0,8% in May 2017 compared with May 2016. The largest year-on-year contributions were made in the following divisions:

  • petroleum, chemical products, rubber and plastic products (-8,4% and contributing -2,1 percentage points);
  • basic iron and steel, non-ferrous metal products, metal products and machinery (5,2% and contributing 1,0 percentage point); and
  • food and beverages (3,5% and contributing 0,9 of a percentage point).

Seasonally adjusted manufacturing production decreased by 0,3% in May 2017 compared with April 2017. This followed month-on-month changes of 2,3% in April 2017 and -0,6% in March 2017.

Seasonally adjusted manufacturing production increased by 0,4% in the three months ended May 2017 compared with the previous three months. Five of the ten manufacturing divisions reported positive growth rates over this period. The largest contributors were the food and beverages division (2,6% and contributing 0,7 of a percentage point) and the petroleum, chemical products, rubber and plastic products division (-1,8% and contributing -0,4 of a percentage point).
