Key findings: P3041.2 - Manufacturing: Production and sales, October 2016

Manufacturing production decreased by 2,7% in October 2016 compared with October 2015. This decrease was mainly due to lower production in the following divisions:

  • food and beverages (-7,3% and contributing -1,9 percentage points); and
  • motor vehicles, parts and accessories and other transport equipment (-9,9% and contributing -0,7 of a percentage point); and
  • petroleum, chemical products, rubber and plastic products (-1,7% and contributing -0,4 of a percentage point).

Seasonally adjusted manufacturing production decreased by 1,9% in October 2016 compared with September 2016. This followed month-on-month changes of 1,3% in September 2016 and -1,0% in August 2016.

Seasonally adjusted manufacturing production decreased by 1,8% in the three months ended October 2016 compared with the previous three months. Eight of the ten manufacturing divisions reported negative growth rates over this period.

The 1,8% decrease was mainly due to lower production in the following divisions:

  • petroleum, chemical products, rubber and plastic products (-3,0% and contributing -0,7 of a percentage point);
  • food and beverages (-1,7% and contributing -0,4 of a percentage point); and
  • motor vehicles, parts and accessories and other transport equipment (-5,8% and contributing -0,4 of a percentage point).
