Key findings: P3041.2 - Manufacturing: Production and sales, September 2016

Manufacturing production was unchanged between September 2015 and September 2016. The divisions that made the largest contributions to the annual rate were:

  • food and beverages (-2,6% and contributing -0,7 of a percentage point);
  • motor vehicles, parts and accessories and other transport equipment (8,8% and contributing 0,6 of a percentage point); and
  • wood and wood products, paper, publishing and printing (2,0% and contributing 0,3 of a percentage point).

Seasonally adjusted manufacturing production increased by 1,5% in September 2016 compared with August 2016. This followed month-on-month changes of -1,1% in August 2016 and -1,9% in July 2016.

Seasonally adjusted manufacturing production decreased by 1,3% in the third quarter of 2016 compared with the second quarter of 2016. Eight of the ten manufacturing divisions reported negative growth rates over this period.

The main contributors to the 1,3% decrease were the petroleum, chemical products, rubber and plastic products division (-2,0% and contributing -0,5 of a percentage point) and the basic iron and steel, non-ferrous metal products, metal products and machinery division (-1,5% and contributing -0,3 of a percentage point).
