Key findings: P3041.2 - Manufacturing: Production and sales, August 2016

Manufacturing production increased by 2,2% in August 2016 compared with August 2015. This increase was mainly due to higher production in the following divisions:

  • petroleum, chemical products, rubber and plastic products (4,9% and contributing 1,2 percentage points);
  • food and beverages (3,1% and contributing 0,8 of a percentage point); and
  • motor vehicles, parts and accessories and other transport equipment (8,5% and contributing 0,6 of a percentage point).

Seasonally adjusted manufacturing production decreased by 1,0% in August 2016 compared with July 2016. This followed month-on-month changes of -1,9% in July 2016 and 0,7% in June 2016.

Seasonally adjusted manufacturing production increased by 0,1% in the three months ended August 2016 compared with the previous three months. Five of the ten manufacturing divisions reported positive growth rates over this period.

The main contributor to the 0,1% increase was the petroleum, chemical products, rubber and plastic products division (1,6% and contributing 0,4 of a percentage point).
