Key findings: P3041.2 - Manufacturing: Production and sales, June 2016

Manufacturing production increased by 4,5% in June 2016 compared with June 2015. This increase was mainly due to higher production in the following divisions:

  • petroleum, chemical products, rubber and plastic products (15,4% and contributing 3,4 percentage points);
  • wood and wood products, paper, publishing and printing (4,4% and contributing 0,6 of a percentage point); and
  • food and beverages (2,0% and contributing 0,5 of a percentage point).

Seasonally adjusted manufacturing production increased by 0,7% in June 2016 compared with May 2016. This followed month-on-month changes of 1,3% in May 2016 and 0,6% in April 2016.

Seasonally adjusted manufacturing production increased by 2,0% in the second quarter of 2016 compared with the first quarter of 2016. Eight of the ten manufacturing divisions reported positive growth rates over this period.

The largest contributions to the 2,0% increase were made by the following divisions:

  • petroleum, chemical products, rubber and plastic products (3,9% and contributing 0,9 of a percentage point);
  • motor vehicles, parts and accessories and other transport equipment (7,2% and contributing 0,5 of a percentage point); and
  • food and beverages (1,9% and contributing 0,5 of a percentage point).
