Key findings: P3041.2 - Manufacturing: Production and sales, December 2015

Manufacturing production increased by 0,4% in December 2015 compared with December 2014. The largest positive contributions were made by the following divisions:

  • food and beverages (4,4% and contributing 1,4 percentage points); and
  • petroleum, chemical products, rubber and plastic products (2,1% and contributing 0,5 of a percentage point).

The largest negative contribution was made by the basic iron and steel, non-ferrous metal products, metal products and machinery division (-6,2% and contributing -1,1 percentage points).

In 2015, total manufacturing production showed no growth compared with 2014. The largest contributions were made by the following divisions:

  • food and beverages (2,7% and contributing 0,7 of a percentage point); and
  • basic iron and steel, non-ferrous metal products, metal products and machinery (-3,3% and contributing -0,6 of a percentage point).

Seasonally adjusted manufacturing production increased by 1,8% in December 2015 compared with November 2015. This followed month-on-month changes of -1,3% in November 2015 and -1,8% in October 2015.

Seasonally adjusted manufacturing production decreased by 0,6% in the fourth quarter of 2015 compared with the third quarter of 2015. Seven of the ten manufacturing divisions reported negative growth rates over this period.

The main negative contributors to the 0,6% decrease were the basic iron and steel, non-ferrous metal products, metal products and machinery division (-3,1% and contributing -0,6 of a percentage point) and the motor vehicles, parts and accessories and other transport equipment division (-5,2% and contributing -0,4 of a percentage point).
