findings regarding mining production
Mining production decreased
by 9,1% year-on-year in July 2020. The largest negative contributors were:

‘other’ non-metallic minerals (-44,9% and
contributing -2,8 percentage points);
·
coal (-8,5% and contributing -2,4 percentage
points);
·
iron ore (-19,0% and contributing -2,1
percentage points);
·
chromium ore (-32,5% and contributing -1,4
percentage points); and
·
gold (-10,2% and contributing -1,3 percentage
points).
Seasonally adjusted
mining production increased by 20,2% in July 2020 compared with June 2020. This
followed month-on-month changes of -1,9% in June 2020 and 50,5% in May 2020.
Seasonally adjusted
mining production increased by 3,7% in the three months ended July 2020
compared with the previous three months. The largest positive contributors were
manganese ore (34,9% and contributing 2,1 percentage points) and PGMs (6,6% and
contributing 1,4 percentage points).
Key findings regarding mineral
sales
Mineral sales increased
by 11,3% year-on-year in July 2020. The largest contributors were:

PGMs (23,0% and contributing 5,1 percentage
points);
·
gold (12,7% and contributing 2,3 percentage
points);
·
coal (5,8% and contributing 1,4 percentage
points);
·
manganese ore (15,0% and contributing 1,1
percentage points); and
·
‘other’ non-metallic minerals (40,9% and contributing
1,0 percentage point).
Seasonally adjusted
mineral sales at current prices increased by 24,3% in July 2020 compared with June
2020. This followed month-on-month changes of -3,3% in June 2020 and 26,7% in May
2020.
In the three months
ended July 2020 the seasonally adjusted value of mineral sales at current
prices was 3,5% lower compared with the previous three months.
