Production: results for
July 2024
Mining production
decreased by 1,4% year-on-year in July 2024. The largest negative contributors
were:
·
iron ore (-19,0% and
contributing -2,8 percentage points);
·
‘other’ metallic minerals
(-36,2% and contributing -1,1 percentage points); and
·
gold (-3,5% and
contributing -0,5 of a percentage point).
Manganese ore (27,0% and contributing 2,0 percentage points) and
chromium ore (23,3% and contributing 1,0 percentage point) were the largest
positive contributors.
Seasonally adjusted mining production decreased by 0,9% in July 2024
compared with June 2024. This followed month-on-month changes of -1,7% in June
2024 and -0,9% in May 2024.
Seasonally
adjusted mining production decreased by 2,5% in the three months ended July
2024 compared with the previous three months. The largest negative contributors
were:

PGMs (-4,8% and
contributing -1,3 percentage points);
·
iron ore (-9,5% and
contributing -1,2 percentage points); and
·
gold (-3,9% and
contributing -0,5 of a percentage point).
Manganese ore (12,9% and contributing 1,0 percentage point) was the
largest positive contributor.
Mineral sales: results for July 2024
Mineral sales at current prices increased by 24,5% year-on-year in July
2024. The largest positive contributors were:
·
gold (117,5% and
contributing 19,3 percentage points);
·
manganese ore (70,8% and
contributing 4,1 percentage points);
·
PGMs (16,3% and
contributing 3,3 percentage points); and
·
coal (13,3% and
contributing 3,1 percentage points).
Iron ore (-31,4% and
contributing -4,4 percentage points) and ‘other’ non-metallic minerals (-36,5%
and contributing -1,3 percentage points) were the largest negative contributors.
Seasonally adjusted mineral sales at current prices decreased by 0,1% in
July 2024 compared with June 2024. This followed month-on-month changes of
19,5% in June 2024 and -7,5% in May 2024.
Seasonally adjusted mineral sales at
current prices increased by 9,6% in the three months ended July 2024 compared
with the previous three months.
