Production: results for June 2022

 

Mining production decreased by 8,0% year-on-year in June 2022. The largest negative contributors were:

·        gold (-28,6% and contributing -4,7 percentage points);

·        PGMs (-9,8% and contributing -2,4 percentage points); and

·        coal (-6,0% and contributing -1,6 percentage points).

 

Seasonally adjusted mining production decreased by 1,4% in June 2022 compared with May 2022. This followed month-on-month changes of 1,2% in May 2022 and -3,8% in April 2022.

 

Seasonally adjusted mining production decreased by 3,4% in the second quarter of 2022 compared with the first quarter of 2022. The largest negative contributors were:

·        gold (-11,7% and contributing -1,7 percentage points);

·        coal (-5,7% and contributing -1,5 percentage points);

·        manganese ore (-12,9% and contributing -1,0 percentage point); and

·        diamonds (-19,1% and contributing -1,0 percentage point).

 

 

Mineral sales: results for June 2022

 

Mineral sales at current prices decreased by 6,1% year-on-year in June 2022. The negative contributors were:

·        PGMs (-30,8% and contributing -12,8 percentage points);

·        gold (-54,4% and contributing -7,9 percentage points); and

·        iron ore (-22,5% and contributing -3,4 percentage points).

 

Coal (71,1% and contributing 11,0 percentage points) was a significant positive contributor.


Seasonally adjusted mineral sales at current prices decreased by 15,9% in June 2022 compared with May 2022. This followed month-on-month changes of 12,1% in May 2022 and -0,4% in April 2022.

 

In the second quarter of 2022 the seasonally adjusted value of mineral sales at current prices was 11,2% higher compared with the first quarter of 2022.
