Key findings regarding mining production for March 2015

Mining production increased by 18,8% year-on-year in March 2015. The highest positive growth rates were recorded for PGMs (132,2%), manganese ore (17,3%) and nickel (15,0%). The main contributors to the 18,8% increase were PGMs (contributing 13,1 percentage points), coal (contributing 2,5 percentage points) and manganese ore (contributing 1,0 percentage point).
 
Seasonally adjusted mining production increased by 7,1% in March 2015 compared with February 2015. This followed month-on-month changes of 4,0% in February 2015 and -3,2% in January 2015.

Seasonally adjusted mining production increased by 1,9% in the first quarter of 2015 compared with the previous quarter. The main contributor to the 1,9% increase was PGMs (contributing 3,4 percentage points).

Key findings regarding mineral sales for February 2015

Mineral sales decreased by 14,1% year-on-year in February 2015. The largest negative growth rates were recorded for copper (-49,1%), iron ore (-37,6%) and gold (-21,3%). The major contributors to the 14,1% decrease were iron ore (contributing -7,0 percentage points), PGMs (contributing -4,0 percentage points) and gold (contributing -2,5 percentage points).

Seasonally adjusted mineral sales at current prices increased by 3,0% in February 2015 compared with January 2015. This followed month-on-month changes of -5,0% in January 2015 and 1,2% in December 2014.
