Key findings regarding mining production for July 2010

The latest mining production figures show that mining production decreased year-on-year by 1,0% in July 2010 compared with a 0,4% increase in June 2010.

The total mining production for the three months ended July 2010, after seasonal adjustment, decreased 4,9% compared with three months ended April 2010. The main contributors to the 4,9% decrease were PGMs (contributing -1,7 percentage points) and coal (contributing -1,4 percentage points).
The actual estimated total mining production for the three months ended July 2010 decreased 2,8% compared with the three months ended July 2009.

Key findings regarding mineral sales for June 2010

In the June quarter 2010, the total seasonally adjusted value of mineral sales at current prices increased 8,2% compared with the March quarter 2010. The increase of 8,2% (R5 544,8 million) was mainly due to increases in the sales value of iron ore (contributing 7,2 percentage points or R4 818,1 million) and gold (contributing 4,9 percentage points or R3 305,0 million).
