Key findings: P2041 - Mining: Production and sales, June 2009

The total mining production for the second quarter of 2009, after seasonal adjustment, increased by 4,5% compared with the previous quarter. PGM (platinum group metal) production was the main contributor (4,0 percentage points) to the 4,5% increase.

The total seasonally adjusted value of mineral sales at current prices for the three months ended May 2009 reflected a decrease of 0,8% compared with the previous three months. This decrease of 0,8% (-R462,1 million) was a result of a decrease of 2,5% (-R1 208,6 million) in the sale of non-gold minerals.
