Key findings: P2041 - Mining: Production and sales, May 2009

The total mining production for the three months ended May 2009, after seasonal adjustment, decreased by 1,5% compared with the previous three months. PGM (platinum group metal) production was the main contributor (-1,5 percentage points) to the 1,5% decrease.

The total seasonally adjusted value of mineral sales at current prices for the three months ended April 2009 reflected a decrease of 1,0% compared with the previous three months. This decrease of 1,0% (R630,5 million) was a result of a decrease of 4,8% (R2 474,8 million) in the sale of non-gold minerals.
