Key findings: P2041 - Mining: Production and sales, April 2009

The total mining production for the three months ended April 2009, after seasonal adjustment, decreased by 3,1% compared with the previous three months. Diamond production was the main contributor (-2,3 percentage points) to the 3,1% decrease.

The total seasonally adjusted value of mineral sales at current prices for the first quarter of 2009 reflected a decrease of 12,8% compared with the previous quarter. This decrease of 12,8% (R9 001,6 million) was a result of a decrease of 13,7% (R7 837,9 million) in the sale of non-gold minerals and a decrease of 8,9% (R1 163,7 million) in the sale of gold.
