In January 2016, there were 1 558 854 foreign arrivals to South Africa. The arrivals were made up of 117 369 non-visitors and 1 441 485 visitors. The visitors consisted of 428 844 same-day visitors and 1 012 641 overnight visitors (tourists). The breakdown of the tourists by region is as follows: 214 903 from overseas; 782 002 from the SADC countries; 15 048 from 'other' African countries and the country of residence of 688 tourists was classified as unspecified.
