The total number of foreign travellers who visited South Africa from mainland Africa, overseas and unspecified countries, arriving through all ports of entry during December 2006 was 844 665. The December 2006 figure represents an increase of 13,6% as compared with the December 2005 figure of 743 515. During December 2006, the most common mode of travel used by foreign travellers arriving in South Africa was road, involving 550 884 (65,2%) travellers while the total number of foreign travellers departing, road constituted the most common mode of travel 554 247 (70,2%).
