The total number of foreign travellers who visited South Africa from mainland Africa, overseas and unspecified countries, arriving through all ports of entry during October 2006 was 765 182. The October 2006 figure represents an increase of 11,2% as compared with the October 2005 figure of 688 062. During October 2006, the most common mode of travel used by foreign travellers arriving in South Africa was road, involving 523 053 (68,3%) travellers while the total number of foreign travellers departing, road constituted the most common mode of travel 451 309 (69,7%).
