The total number of foreign travellers who visited South Africa from mainland Africa, overseas and unspecified countries, arriving through all ports of entry during September 2006 was 699 282. The September 2006 figure represents an increase of 11,3% as compared with the September 2005 figure of 628 398. During September 2006, the most common mode of travel used by foreign travellers arriving in South Africa was road, involving 500 379 (71,6%) travellers while the total number of foreign travellers departing, road constituted the most common mode of travel 454 002 (73,0%).
