The total number of foreign travellers who visited South Africa from mainland Africa, overseas and unspecified countries, arriving through all ports of entry during August 2006 was 701 991. The August 2006 figure represents an increase of 8,0% as compared with the August 2005 figure of 650 290. During August 2006, the most common mode of travel used by foreign travellers arriving in South Africa was road, involving 501 910 (71,5%) travellers while the total number of foreign travellers departing, road constituted the most common mode of travel 433 136 (70,5%).
