The total number of foreign travellers who visited South Africa from mainland Africa, overseas and unspecified countries, arriving through all ports of entry during October 2005 was 688 062. The October 2005 figure represents an increase of 9,2% as compared with the October 2004 figure of 561 142. During October 2005, the most common mode of travel used by foreign travellers arriving in South Africa was road, involving 463 352 (67,3%) travellers while the total number of foreign travellers departing, road constituted the most common mode of travel 418 928 (69,7%).
